Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta: Helping Individuals with Disabilities to Create a Life Without Limits
The Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta is dedicated to helping people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities to create a life without limits. To that end, CPAA provides a rich variety of programs, from home visits, to family and individual counseling, to multi–sensory therapy, to advocacy, research, job training, work experience, and more.
For example, CPAA’s Pathways Employment Program gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to explore options in both career and education services and support. The Community Access Program (CAP) provides affordable computer and internet access to Canadians with disabilities. And the Recreation and Leisure Programs provides essential social interaction in healthy, nurturing environments, helping to encourage social interaction, friendship, positive self esteem and personal growth.
CPAA focuses not only on cerebral palsy but also on providing help to individuals with all kinds of disabilities as they go through similar struggles in life, according to Joanne Dorn, Director of Development. She adds that CPAA "likes to have donors who are not just looking to hand out money. We love companies and individuals who...want to create a relationship with the organization...who offer services that the community needs."
She explains that these relationships help to advance the work their organization is doing because "members and families within the community spread the word of the donors and help out their companies." So the partnership with ClearView Plumbing & Heating is a good fit for CPAA.
