January 2010 Charity–of–the–Month
ClearView Plumbing Donates $1,000 to Variety of Alberta
Ensuring the health, quality of life and happiness of Alberta’s children with special needs, Variety, the Children’s Charity, has been active in the Calgary area since 1982. The organization supports children’s organizations around Alberta and helps individual families with medical treatment, special services, special equipment and other initiatives.
Variety Park – A Park for All People
Variety of Alberta operates Calgary’s Variety Park, a 1.2 acre barrier–free park made specifically for children with special needs. The park includes preschool and school–age play areas, a water park and picnic areas.
Safe Transportation for Children with Variety Sunshine Coaches
Variety established the Sunshine Coach program to provide reliable, secure transportation for children. Organizations that have benefited from the use of the program’s passenger vans include: Calgary City Police–Gang Life is a Dead End Program; Heartland Agency; Youth & Volunteer Center of Red Deer; Salvation Army Children’s Village; Providence; and John Howard Society–Radio House.
Variety Supports Rockyview Hospital
Variety supported the expansion of Rockyview Hospital, which includes a Family Room and Special Care Nursery. The Family Room offers the comforts and conveniences of home to families whose children require medical treatment.
Exciting Variety Events for the Entire Calgary Community
Variety hosts many events each year, including a wine and cheese gala, kids’ Christmas party, and Canada Day celebrations. Variety is closely connected with the Calgary Stampeders, and receives funds by distributing programs at Stampeders games. Through Rocco’s Kick Off for Kids Variety is able to give football tickets to children and their families.
The annual Gold Heart campaign, held in conjunction with Variety International, helps the organization raise funds. Through this campaign several gold heart pins are available for sale. Because of Variety International’s Hollywood connections, many of these pins feature images from popular films, including Shrek, Spiderman, Eragon and Madagascar 2.
ClearView is very happy to make a $1,000 contribution to Variety’s efforts to help children with special needs in the greater Calgary area.
